Tale of Two Cities is my favorite book, though I thoroughly enjoyed Great Expectations as well. I am slowly reading through Oliver Twist, and found the first chapter some of his best writing anywhere.

But ToTC is awesome. Simply fantastic.

Jeremy,

Nice. Moby Dick is great...I need to re-read that. It has been years and even then I can't remember it much or know if I did more than skim it for a class.

I have not read The Trial, but I do like Kafka.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Gary,

I love that...."the power of narrative to deeply, deeply effect the greatest point of need in our hearts."

I have a Kindle, and to be honest...I'm still having a hard adjusting to it. Mainly cause I love to underline books and make notes....but which I do of less for novels. So I do use my Kindle primarily/or want to use it primarily for novels.

This is a great site. I am rereading Moby Dick right now. What a manly book that keeps reality in your face the whole time.

Have you read "The Trial" by Kafka?

Great post, Rhett.

I actually started repeating a new mantra last year for myself (I had never done this before, and my wife found it amusing): "A novel at all times!" It's been a helpful refrain to keep in mind and I have definitely read more fiction as a result. I'm slowly working my way through the Dickens canon, if only because he was Chesterton's favorite author.

Best,

Matt
