Annie,

Hey, thanks for commenting. How is parenting going?

There are a lot of good books out there to read for sure. And everyone has different opinions. One of my favorites so far is Parenting with Love and Logic. I don't agree with everything in there, but I like the style of providing options, especially for younger kids. Teaching responsibility, etc. I think parents have to develop their own style, and Heather and I are sort of taking bits and pieces from books we like, from things that other parents use, to what we feel was effective for our parents...and what we see Hayden responding to.

Rhett

Hey Rhett,
Loved this post! Not because it was written to fathers but because of the implications of parenting and how our discipline and words impact our children. I'm curious if you have read any parenting books in particular that you've found helpful? Now that we're out of the baby stage (Well, baby books at least), I'm not sure where to turn to next! Thanks Rhett

Seth,

Thanks for commenting. I appreciate the work you do on behalf of father's and children. That's a very worthy cause. I will hop online and check out your site.

As a single custodial father I have the burden of raising two toddler boys on my own - and I love it. I feel like I'm re-living my childhood, but doing things the way I wanted them done. And that includes NOT saying "Because I told you so," or "I'm your dad, that's why." I always disliked those phrases. Also, I do outreach for a government-based fatherhood education group, and we encourage fathers to see things from the kid's perspective - it works for me, and for many of the guys we teach. Patience and love go a lot farther than yelling and spanking.
