An on line community can totally exist! On twitter I gear myself toward Christians..ones I know-and ones I am amazed by-and it has been amazing! We have all grown closer in prayer and scripture and life stories/testimonies. And Facebook brought back friends from my childhood I haven't seen in 15 yrs-that are amazingly in a close walk with the Lord. Then there are a few that I love dearly-that are of different faith that gives me that chance to share His word...and we all remain loving friends. It is awesome. It is what I love to do, pray for others, share scripture, and praise them for what they do thru the Lord. And it also helps me be able to pray with them for health issues-which is comforting. I am not well right now-can't get around in my actual community-so twitter/facebook are my communities until neurologists figure it out. God bless these!

I wonder what the difference is between true community and simply developing "connections" with people. Just what I'm thinking about... I'd just really rather connect with people in person, if tech helps with that...great.

Margaret,

That's awesome. I think a lot of people have similar stories about meeting up with people they meet on Twitter and connecting with old friends on Facebook, etc. Very cool.

I have only been using social networking sites for a few months but am finding they enhance my connections with people I already know and helped me form new friendships. I have met face to face one person from Twitter. On the 29th I will have lunch with someone from my high school graduating class who I was not friends with in high school. So there is definitely community life on the internet. I imagine the quality of those communities depend on the people who belong to them.
